Face Yoga: Exercises, Does It Work & How to Start
Face yoga is a short routine of gentle facial exercises and massage-style movements, practised for a few minutes a day. Here is what it is, an honest answer on whether it works, and simple exercises for the jawline, cheeks, eyes and forehead.

What is face yoga?
Face yoga (also called facial yoga, face exercises or face fitness) treats the face like the rest of the body: you contract, hold and release the muscles on purpose. Moves are slow and controlled, often with a little finger resistance, and a session usually takes 3 to 10 minutes. Many people add a face massage with a gua sha, roller or cup afterwards to relax the muscles.
Does face yoga work? An honest answer
In short: it may help some people, but the evidence is limited. A small pilot study from 2018 reported changes in cheek fullness after months of daily exercises, but it was small and short, and larger, longer studies are still needed. We do not promise visible results, and nobody should.
What we can say: a short daily routine builds awareness of facial tension, especially in the jaw, brow and neck, and many people find it relaxing. Consistency and gentle technique matter more than intensity.
Face yoga exercises by zone
Start with clean hands and a relaxed face. Use light pressure and stop if anything hurts. Pick one or two moves per zone, 3 to 5 minutes in total.
Jawline and neck
Jawline Micro-Scoop: drop the jaw slightly forward, roll the lower lip over your teeth and scoop the jaw upward, slowly. 8 reps.
Ceiling Kiss: tilt your head back, look at the ceiling and pucker the lower lip upward. Hold 10 seconds, 6 reps.
Cheeks
Cheek Apple Sculptor: make a long O with your mouth, tuck the lips over your teeth and smile toward your temples. Hold 5 seconds, 10 reps.
Air Pocket Transfer: move a bubble of air from the left cheek to the upper lip, right cheek, lower lip. 30 seconds each direction.
Eyes
Lower Lid Squeeze: rest your fingers lightly at the corners of your eyes, look up and squint using only the lower lids. 15 small pulses, then hold 10 seconds. Never press on the eyeball.
Upper Lid Lift: index fingers under the brow arch, lift gently and close your eyes against light resistance. Hold 5 seconds, 8 reps.
Forehead
Forehead Anchor: place your hands flat across the forehead and raise your brows against gentle resistance. Hold 5 seconds, 10 reps. Relax fully between reps.
Where tools fit in
Exercises train the muscles. Tools add a massage step, and they are optional. Hands are enough to start.

Face yoga FAQ
Is face yoga safe?
Move gently, use light pressure around the eyes and mouth, and stop if anything hurts. If you have had injectables or surgery, or have a jaw, facial nerve or skin condition, check with a doctor first.
How often should I do face yoga?
Many routines suggest a few minutes on most days, with rest days. Start with 3 to 5 minutes and see how your face feels.
Do I need tools?
No. Your hands are enough. A gua sha, roller or cup simply adds a relaxing massage step.
How long until I see results?
There is no reliable timeline and results are not guaranteed. Think of it as a calm daily ritual first.
